MURALS
In previous years Steven Lavaggi has been a successful painter of grand scale murals. These included skies on vast ceiling areas and domes, as well as huge landscape vistas painted directly on the walls and celilings. His projects included the exterior wall of a recording studio and a store at Universal Studios in Los Angeles.
Lavaggi’s use of the method called Trompe ‘l oeil painting came out of his study of it’s rich place in art history, as well as his love for the surprise that this technique creates. The “trick of the eye” method of illusionary painting was the strong element of what Lavaggi hoped to achieve in the murals. He often uses these techniques in his paintings on canvas as well.
His mural projects were from NYC to California, with many in Beverly Hills, Belaire and Malibu. One of the largest homes was 17,000 square feet. Lavaggi painted the entire 3,000 square foot foyer, from the sky in the dome and down a curved 40 foot staircase, and completely around the walls of the upper and lower circumference of the foyer.
